Summary

All is peaceful at Storm’s herd. But, as a storm threatens their area, they are thrown into a journey, which leads to the area of safety. Will they all make it?

The Storm

Storm reached the herd’s camp.  The air was getting cold, even though winter was coming to an end. The wind was very strong, and we he came back his herd was walking into the shelter, trying to block off the wind. As he, came by his mate Golden Sun came trotting up. She nuzzled him, and he hugged her in return.

“We were all so worried. What took you?” Her voice was anxious, and he was not planning to tell her.

“We got chased by some humans while we were on borders.”  He replied. The other horses that were on the trip raced back, including Sunshine, a fast, over-grown filly.

There was a flash of lightning that broke their conversation. They rushed inside, soaking by the instant rain.  The rocks tumbled, leaving them trapped inside the cave.  The only light was the faint glimmer of sunshine, creeping through the cracks.

What should we do? The question flashed through his mind, as he stood there, trapped.

Trapped

He could tell that the herd panicked. The foals bent close to the rocks, but Storm pushed them back. “Don’t go near them” he said “The rocks could fall any moment, and crush you” The foals backed away.

Sunshine moved forward, pressing her muzzle on the rocks, and Storm was about to tell her off, when she backed away, then ran forward, pushing her side, and then the rocks started to fall.

“Quick everyone do what Sunshine is doing.” The herd started bashing towards the walls, and soon enough the rocks fell away.  “We have to move.” Storm said, “I knew this would happen some day, and I was right.”

“But where do we move?”

The herd was looking up at him, with confused faces. Then Zulu spoke.

“Back when I was a loner, there was an area, just north of here. I went there one day, and it was not claimed. I am pretty sure it is still not claimed, for it was in the middle of nowhere, but I mapped it.”

“We shall go there then,” Storm said. So now I guess we are on a journey he said to himself the worst time.

The Journey

Because they had to leave quickly, the commotion was big. The Healer Horse, Bella and her assistant Snowflake tried to get as many herbs as possible. Golden Sun seemed uncomfortable as she left, so he trotted up to her. “What’s wrong?” He asked. She looked stressed and she finally spoke. “My foaling is due in a month. I have been waiting for a few months, and I wanted to surprise you really close to the birth, but now we are on this journey…………..” She stopped, and looked up at him. “It to be alright” Storm replied, nuzzling her. “The journey will be over before you give birth. I promise.” She smiled, as they headed off.

They had been traveling for a week, and all was peaceful. They were walking in  a dense forest, when they heard a growl. Storm turned his head, and walked on. Then they heard steps, and looked around, Storm signaled them to stay back, the foals in the middle. Suddenly a few bears came running. The bears plunged towards them, and Storm threw them off. Sunshine headed one into the trees, but then backed away.

“Run! Go! Zulu, Sunshine and Cream stay with me.” He saw the herd rush by, and then the four horses attacked the bears, leaving them running away. They found the other horses drinking out of a lake. I hope that is the most trouble we have on our journey

The herd was almost there. But, they had traveled through deserts, and the herd was beginning to starve. “There isn’t enough food for one horse, let alone a big herd” He heard someone say. But he was right. The area was getting more lush, and they stopped for a good meal. “That is it!” He heard Zulu say. He was galloping to a meadow, and a forest. Soon enough they reached the place. The foals ran around, enjoying the area. He saw Golden Dun lie down, and knew there was still one journey left.

A New Foal

Golden sun was in pain, and she lied down, grunting and pushing. She laid there, for half an hour, then finally he saw a nose, then a hoof, and then they whole body slipped out. She was golden, like her mother, but had her father’s markings. “I think…………I  think we should call her Sunny” Golden Sun looked up at him, and he smiled. “Yes. Her name shall be Sunny”

So the story comes to an end, but there is more to come.
